Mindful Morsels: Science of Mindful Compassion

Presented by Julie Brefczynski-Lewis, PhD

Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 12:00 PM - 01:00 PM

The Mindful Morsels series is set to continue February 21st at 12 pm in HSC North 1909.

Are you sometimes a too hard on yourself?  Do you find it exceedingly challenging to deal with difficult people?  The Mindfulness toolbox offers practices that help foster compassion towards oneself and others. This can make it easier to create visible changes in perspective, as a little folly or slip won’t throw you off-balance. Compassion towards others can be a positive way to mitigate some of the adverse effects of interpersonal conflict in daily living. Scientific research is showing promising benefits in both behavior and in the brain with a mindful compassion practice.

Target Audience: physicians, pharmacists, nurses, PAs, residents, students, dentists, hygienists, social workers

Series Objectives:

  • Learn a mindful compassion practice that can be applied to self and others
  • Understand the science showing how self-compassion can benefit health and also serve as an aid towards moving away from negative habits
  • Understand how social interactions and behaviors have been shown to benefit from compassion meditation
  • Learn techniques to practice at home or on the go, such as right before a difficult social interaction
  • Acknowledge that compassion doesn’t make you a push-over, but rather allows you to skillfully deal with conflict with less emotional turmoil, and more kindness
