WVU’s Clay Marsh to address congressional caucus on opioid epidemic

MORGANTOWN, W.VA. – West Virginia University Health Sciences Vice President and Executive Dean Clay B. Marsh, MD, will address the Congressional Academic Medicine Caucus as part of a panel discussion on how medical schools and teaching hospitals are working to treat patients with opioid use disorders and ultimately stem the tide of overdoses in hard-hit and underserved areas of the country.

Sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges, the luncheon briefing is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 17 at noon in Room HVC-201 at the Capitol Visitors Center, Washington, D.C.

Dr. Marsh will participate in “Care in the Face of the Opioid Epidemic: How Medical Schools and Teaching Hospitals are Reaching Underserved Communities” representing WVU along with leaders from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and Yale University School of Medicine.

Along with many of the nation’s medical schools, WVU is uniquely responding to the opioid crisis by educating and training future healthcare providers in alternative pain management methods, delivering innovative and novel treatments to patients and conducting groundbreaking research on the brain’s response to opioids.
