Hours of Operation / After Hours Care

Fall and Spring Session hours

8:30 a.m.-6.00 p.m. Monday through Friday

Summer Session hours and Semester Breaks

8:30 a.m.-4.30 p.m. Monday through Friday

Medical recordsBeing healthy, physically and mentally is essential for academic achievement and success. Often we take our health for granted until we become sick. The Student Health Service is open regular hours during the summer sessions, semester breaks, and spring break except on official University holidays. The Health service fee is a mandatory fee, automatically charged to the student for the term in which they are enrolled. The fee, which is included in the tuition and fees you pay through Student Accounts, is prorated based on the number of hours you are enrolled in school. Fees paid during the regular term do not cover the summer sessions. Enrollment in any summer term entitles you to receive continued quality care, during the session(s) you are enrolled.

WVU students who are not enrolled in summer classes, but who want to take advantage of the Health Service as well as other educational and recreational services provided by the University, must satisfy either requirement below:

  • The Student must have been enrolled during the preceding spring semester and be in good standing and must be pre-registered for the fall semester classes, and must pay the Summer Services Fee. Students who are not enrolled either semester will not be eligible.

  • WVU Extended Learning students enrolled in summer classes will be eligible to take advantage of these services by paying the Summer Services Fee.

These services include the following: Recreation Center, computer labs supported by the Information Technology Fee; Libraries, Student Health Service, Carruth Center for Counseling & Psychological Services and other services supported by the Student Affairs fee; the PRT; and athletic facilities. To take advantage of these summer services, you must meet the requirements above and contact the Office of Student Accounts to pay the fee ($245 for summer session).

Options for After Hours Care

We encourage you to come to the Health Service by appointment from 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. (8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Summer) when a team of health care practitioners is available. The Jon Michael Moore Trauma Center (Emergency Department) at Ruby Memorial Hospital is always available for care. Costs incurred at the Emergency Department or WVU Urgent Care are the responsibility of the student. Students are advised to review their insurance coverage prior to enrollment.

It is important to remember that any medical care received outside of the Health Service is not covered by the Health Service fee. If you have United Health Care Insurance the policy does cover conditions that need to be treated immediately. If you are treated at a hospital or other health care facility you are responsible for making payment arrangements. This is also true if you receive emergency room service or use ambulance services. Fees resulting from this type of visit are your responsibility and could range from $40 to $100 or more. For less urgent needs the university's United Health Care group insurance policy requires a visit to Student Health Service first.

Other medical offices are available in the evenings or weekends in Morgantown. Please consult the yellow pages under physicians, under the subcategory of family medicine or internal medicine.
