Free to those who join the research project, which is associated with the University of Pittsburgh's Grad School of Public Health. Extremely confidential. By appointment only. Pre-test and post-test counseling required. Results available in 2 weeks. Pitt Men's Study is a longitudinal study open only to men who have sex with other men.

Free, anonymous HIV antibody testing through partnership with the Allegheny County Health Department. Testing with OraSure, a non-invasive procedure is available. OraSure is designed to draw HIV antibodies not the virus from the tissue of the cheek and gum. No blood or needles and no appointment needed. Results available in 5-10 days.

HOME ACCESS, 1-800-HIV-TEST (1-800-448-8378)
Home Access is the only FDA-approved (99.9 percent accurate) home test. It may be purchased at most area pharmacies. Test kits may also be ordered directly from Home Access. You collect your blood sample at home by using the materials inside the kit. The specimen is sent in the provided packaging to the certified lab. You call Home Access within 3 to 7 days for the results, depending on whether the kit you purchased was a 3-day or 7-day kit. The test is anonymous. There is no way to obtain results other than by the 11-digit access number provided in the kit. (Hepatitis C testing kits are also available by calling Home Access.) You may get information about the advisability of home testing by contacting the agencies listed in this handout.
