Mental Health

Student Health Psychiatry offers outpatient evaluation and treatment of problems such as depression, anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, panic, obsessive-compulsive, social, post traumatic stress disorder), bipolar disorder, and attention deficit disorder.

Evaluation is primarily by a clinical interview during a scheduled appointment. Students are requested to show up for their appointments 10-15 minutes ahead to check in. A $10 co-pay is charged for each psychiatry appointment.

Treatment includes medication management and limited psychotherapy with scheduled outpatient follow-up. Practitioners include board certified psychiatrists, family medicine physicians and licensed physician assistants. Many students also receive therapy in conjunction with The Carruth Center For Counseling and Psychological Services.

Individual insurance coverage is encouraged but if a student is not covered by insurance for required psychiatric medications, efforts are made to arrange for sample medications and patient assistance plans.
