Mission Statement
It is the mission of the West Virginia University School of Dentistry to
promote a learning environment that addresses the present and future oral health
needs
of the citizens of West Virginia and beyond by providing
an oral health center committed to excellence and innovation in
education, patient care, community service, research and technology
GOALS
The School’s mission is realized by a sustained effort to educate and train
competent general dentists by accomplishing the following goals:
- Plan, implement and evaluate policies and procedures that recruit and admit
high quality students from diverse backgrounds and promote an environment that
enhances student life and achievement
- Sustain an educational environment that promotes competency upon graduation
by providing
- A curriculum that embodies the acquisition and integration of knowledge and
skills, social awareness, critical thinking, a commitment to service learning
and an appreciation for continuous learning
- Clinical patient experiences that offer wide access to emergency,
consultative and comprehensive oral health services
- Facilities, technology and materials that support the exchange of knowledge
and ideas and are conducive to the provision of optimum evidence-based oral
health care practices
- Attract and retain faculty and staff committed to the mission of the School
by providing them with the necessary resources and opportunities to stimulate
their growth and development
- Conduct basic, clinical and translational research that directly relates to
the general and unique oral health needs of the citizens of West Virginia and
beyond
- Develop and implement internal and external marketing and communication
strategies that promote the mission of the School and University
- Develop and maintain financial resources sufficient to support institutional
excellence and innovation at all levels
