Disaster Medicine

Our goal is to develop a multidisciplinary program that will offer training and education to a wide variety of hospital, pre-hospital, law enforcement and lay persons, in disaster medicine, management, and threat preparedness.  Desired outcomes include improved patient safety, diminished sentinel event occurrence, regulation compliance, and standardization in disaster plans.

The initial training phase will include didactic lectures, web based education, and hands-on training utilizing the WV STEPS (SIM center).  A variety of courses, including Basic Disaster Life Support (BDLS), Advanced Disaster Life Support (ADLS), and Advanced Hazmat Life Support (AHLS), will be available throughout the year.  Plans are also underway to include additional courses, including Core Disaster Life Support (CDLS) and National Disaster Life Support-Decontamination (NDLS-D).
