Interim Dean

James E. Brick, M.D.James E. Brick, M.D., is the interim dean of the West Virginia University School of Medicine.

Dr. Brick is also the E.B. Flink Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine, the school’s largest department. He is past chairman of the WVU Medical Corporation Board of Directors.

The School of Medicine encompasses the M.D. program, Ph.D. programs in a variety of biomedical sciences, along with programs in physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology, and medical technology. In addition to Morgantown, the school has divisions in Charleston and Martinsburg.

Dr. Brick leads an outstanding faculty, including physicians of international renown. WVU plays a vital role in the total healthcare environment of West Virginia, and the goal is to keep it moving strongly forward.

One of the school’s greatest strengths is its partnership with West Virginia University Hospitals. The hospital is experiencing considerable growth, and will continue to work closely with the Health Sciences Center. The commitment is to work with the hospital to continue providing excellent education and research programs that serve the needs of West Virginia.

Dr. Brick received his undergraduate and medical degrees from WVU. He completed advanced training at WVU and the University of Missouri. He is board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology and has been on the WVU faculty since 1984. He was an early investigator in the use of methotrexate in the treatment of rheumatic diseases. He and his brother, Dr. John Brick, developed Mountaineer Doctor Television (MDTV), West Virginia’s federally sponsored telemedicine network that provides consultative and educational programming throughout the state.
