| Alumni Affairs 1988 Recipient - Jay M. Arena, MD (Class of 1930)  Dr. Arena was named the WVU School of Medicine Distinguished Alumnus for 1988. He received his BS degree from WVU in 1930. He received his MD from Duke University in 1932 where he founded the Duke Pediatric Department. Dr. Arena has served at Duke for more than 40 years as an educator and a pediatric poison control specialist where he currently serves as its director. He is emeritus professor of pediatrics and community health sciences. He has served on the editorial boards of eight medical journals and has published more than 300 articles and pamphlets on poisoning and on pediatric subjects. Dr. Arena was an honoree of the Italian Heritage Festival in Clarksburg. |
