Dedication of Cavanaugh's
Cavanaugh's, a new coffee shoppe in the Health Sciences Learning Center was dedicated on Friday, October 19, named to honor the memory of Mrs. Elsie Cavanaugh who owned and operated a cafeteria on the ground floor of the Basic Sciences Building from 1957 through 1972.
A special feature of the ceremony was the unveiling of “I Owe Mrs. Cavanaugh,” by artist, Dr. Larry Krames, 1966 graduate of the WVU School of Medicine. His painting depicts the sentiments of hundreds of former students as they recall an era when times were hard, cash was low, and a special lady cared for and trusted them.
Dr. Bill Neal, 1966 graduate of the School of Medicine said, “Elsie Cavanaugh was like our mother away from home for a generation of students. As time goes by, the memory of the small but great faculty who began this Health Sciences Center begins to fade. Cavanaugh’s should, in its own way, help perpetuate the sense of excellence, compassion and camaraderie so characteristic of that era.” |
