Message from the Interim Vice President
The faculty, staff, and students of the WVU School of Medicine are a critical component of the overall Health Sciences Center commitment to serving the needs of West Virginians throughout our state. Serving our community is an integral component of our School’s mission. The research carried out by our faculty, staff, and students has a profound impact on the health of West Virginians, and has raised the level of health care not only in our state, but around the world.
We have entered a new era in biosciences research at WVU, adding strength to areas where we already have accomplished faculty. We are also developing new focus areas of research based upon the health needs of the state and the nation. Our infrastructure, including the creation of our new Biomedical Sciences Research Center, will allow the School of Medicine to take a team approach to research – with scientists from different disciplines working together to define new solutions for West Virginia’s biggest health maladies including cancer, stroke, heart disease, and diabetes.
With the continued support of our state and federal legislators, our many alumni, and friends, the School of Medicine is poised to drive innovation in health research and fulfill our mission to provide our students with the highest quality educational experience that is recognized worldwide.
