The School of Medicine Alumni Association hosted the 2012 John W. Traubert White Coat Ceremony on March 30th at the WVU Mountainlair. More than 800 people attended as we celebrated with the Class of 2014 on all their accomplishments. The crowd was inspired by the words of Josh Dower, MD the key note speaker and well known palliative care physician.

Medical students throughout the nation learned of their residency selections at noon on Friday, March 16, at Match Day ceremonies. One third of the WVU School of Medicine Class of 2012 will continue training in the state. “My heart, our hearts are in West Virginia,” said newlywed Hilary Hickman. She and her husband, Chad Morley, met while in medical school at WVU and say they are excited to stay in the area together.

The School of Medicine sponsored the annual Snowball for the first year students on Saturday, January 14th, at the Hotel Morgan. Dancing followed a wonderful dinner. These events help to promote wellness for our students in a healthy atmosphere. A fun time was had by all!

The WVU Student Occupational Therapy Association teamed up with HealthSouth to make a float promoting brain injury awareness for the 2011 Homecoming Parade. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is often referred to as a silent epidemic, seeing as the majority of its effects are internal impairments rather than external. Although its effects are not always seen, the vast prevalence of TBI cannot be overlooked.
