Commonly referred to as C8, ammonium perfluorooctanoate and its derivative salts are used by the E. I. du Pont de Nemours (DuPont) chemical company to aid in the production of nonstick and protective fluoropolymers such as TEFLON™, Scotchgard™, and Gore-Tex™. The DuPont manufacturing facility is located near Parkersburg, West Virginia.
