Program Description

Anxiety Disorders are among the most common medical illness that can be effectively treated. Research is yielding new, improved therapies that can help most people with anxiety disorders lead productive, fulfilling lives. This conference will address the diagnosis and pharmacologic management and use of cognitive behavior therapy in the treatment of anxiety disorders. Current research in anxiety disorders will be presented.  The Tanner Lecture will discuss how the power of coalitions impacts public perceptions and behavior.

This program targets physicians in psychiatry, neurology, and primary care as well as other healthcare professionals: pharmacists, nurses, psychologists, counselors, social workers, and case managers.

Registration Information

To register for Anxiety Disorders Spectrum please complete the registration form and return it by October 19, 2007, to the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry Conference Office, along with your payment (checks made payable to West Virginia University).  Registrations received by October 19 will be confirmed in writing.

If you are unable to attend the program after you have registered, you must notify us by October 19, 2007 to receive a refund. No refunds will be made after this date.

We reserve the right to cancel individual sessions or the entire program. In the event of a program cancellation, a full tuition refund will be made. Program fees include materials, breaks and continuing education credits.

Update of Neuropharmacology of Anxiety and New Treatment Opportunities
• identify new pharmacological interventions in the treatment of anxiety disorders

Cognitive Behavior Therapy in the Treatment of Anxiety Disorders
• describe the behavioral theories pertaining to the onset and maintenance of anxiety disorders           
• list the range of assessment tools used for patients with anxiety disorders
