Pre-Doctoral Clinical Psychology Internship Program 2009-2010
- PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Clinical Psychology Internship at the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center of West Virginia University has been approved by the American Psychological Association since 1972, and in 2003, received a seven year accreditation. The WVU School of Medicine Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, located at Chestnut Ridge Center, sponsors this yearlong predoctoral internship. The program emphasizes strong supervision and training in assessment and intervention from a cognitive-behavioral perspective. Interns gain clinical experience with patients representing a broad range of presenting problems and developmental levels in both inpatient and outpatient treatment settings. Additionally, during the course of the year, interns participate in the long-term continuous care of patients. A variety of didactic and research opportunities are provided. For the 2009-2010 internship year, we will offer a general clinical psychology internship program within which interns can focus their experience in one of two areas:

  • adult psychology
  • neuropsychology

The experiences offered emphasize comprehensive training, but also allow flexibility for more in-depth experiences in areas that are of particular interest to the trainee. The internship begins July 1, 2009.

The internship begins with orientation one week prior to the start date, July 1, 2009. Interns are expected to attend and will be compensated for this activity.
