WVU criteria for international medical graduates includes permanent United States residency status or eligibility for a J1 visa. WVU does not sponsor H1 or other visas. Osteopathic applicants are encouraged to apply but should note that the West Virginia Board of Osteopathy requires that graduates complete an approved one-year internship to be eligible for licensure.

Factors considered in the selection process include: recent graduation from an LCME-accredited medical school, examination results, clinical grades, recommendation letters, personal statement, academic experience, interpersonal skills and outside interests. Qualified candidates are invited for an interview which is heavily weighed in the final ranking process.

Interviews are scheduled during the late fall and early winter seasons. Applicants can typically expect to spend a full day to meet with the training director, chairperson, chief resident, faculty and several residents. The department will arrange and provide for breakfast and lunch and overnight accommodation as well as a local tour of our campus and community.

Information about all WVU programs can be obtained from the Graduate Medical Education website.
