Consultation/Liaison Service
It is estimated that approximately 30% of hospitalized patients at any given time have a mental illness or addiction. Of those individuals 3-5% of hospitalized patients will receive psychiatric consultation services.
The Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry at WVU averages more than 2500 consults per year. We consult at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Children's Hospital and the Emergency Department
, Physician's Office Center, Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, Family Medicine Clinic, and Health South Mountainview Rehabilitation Hospital.
What We Provide
Ruby Memorial Hospital, Emergency Department and Physician's Office Center
| Consultation to medically or surgically ill hospitalized adults over 18 years of age

| Consults to the Emergency Department |
| Education to physicians, medical students, and allied health professionals about the psychosocial and psychiatric aspects of the medically ill patient |
Support to palliative care and ethics services

Children's Hospital and Pediatric Group Practice
| Consultation and psycho education to child and adolescents and their families |

Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center
| Provide support through the psycho oncology program to patients to reduce stress and psychological burden of cancer |
Assist with symptom management
