  Research Induction Ceremony:

In November, the Research Induction Ceremony was held in the Fukushima Auditorium in the Health Sciences Center.  Modeled after the White Coat Ceremony for medical students, graduate students who have completed the first year of the program and joined a laboratory are presented with a lab coat by their dissertation advisor.  This ceremony recognizes the dedication of these young scientists to research and the bonding of mentor and student.  Six students from Department of Biochemistry laboratories, representing 3 different graduate programs in the Medical School, were honored at this year’s ceremony.

Travis Cyphert joined Lisa Salati’s laboratory and will perform his graduate studies in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Program. Holly Damron has joined the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Program and will conduct her dissertation research in Brad Hillgartner’s lab. Robin Cline, a new student in the Cancer Cell Biology Program, has joined Elena Pugacheva’s laboratory.

Ryan Ice is congratulated by Tom Saba, VP of Research and Graduate Education and guest speaker, Richard Calderone (at left).  Ryan is a new student in Cancer Cell Biology and will perform his dissertation research in Steve Frisch’s lab. Sun Hee Park has joined Steve Frisch’s laboratory and is a new student in the Cancer Cell Biology Program. Cristy Ku is an MD/PhD student and has joined Vishy Ramamurthy’s laboratory for her PhD studies.  Cristy is a student in the Neuroscience program.
