Public Health Competencies

The public health competencies reflect the five basic disciplines of public health (Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Environmental Health Science, Health Policy and Management, and Social and Behavioral Sciences) as well as the cross-cutting disciplines (Communication and Informatics, Diversity and Culture, Leadership, Professionalism, Program Planning, Systems Thinking, and public health biology). Recently developed by the Association of Schools of Public Health and collaborators, they outline the basic knowledge, skills, and other attributes normally expected of emerging public health professionals and are integrated into WVU's MPH curriculum.

The Public Health Competencies can be found at: http://www.asph.org/document.cfm?page=851.

Please Note: All curriculum seen here is subject to change as the Department of Community Medicine transitions
into the School of Public Health; please continue to check with your advisors for any changes.
