Title:  "About Alcohol"

Time:  One Hour
 

Learning Outcomes:

After students complete this section, they will be able to

Methods:
  1. Write key words on the chalkboard. Have students define these words using their textbooks (alcohol, depressant, intoxicated, problem drinking, alcohol dependence, withdrawal).
  2. Lecture: "About Alcohol".
  3. Have a class discussion about the reading.
  4. Include the following points

    1. -What are some drinks that contain alcohol?
    2. What are the short-term effects of alcohol?
    3. What are the long-term effects of alcohol?
    4. What are the problems with drinking alcohol?
    5. What happens when a drinker loses control?
    6. Where can problem drinkers and their families find help?
    7. Why do some people use alcohol?

     

  5. Have students work with a partner to draw and label a diagram of the body showing the systems and organs that are affected by alcohol abuse. Beneath diagrams, the student should write several sentences describing the ways in which alcohol can damage the body.


Materials:

Teacher’s Text Blank paper and colored pencils for diagrams

Evaluation:

For homework, have students answer review questions. Collect next class. Assess students’ understanding of the context by checking the answers.
