WVU Project Team

Principal Investigator

Alan M. Ducatman, MD, MSc, is Professor and Chair of the Department of Community Medicine at the West Virginia University School of Medicine.  He is also a faculty member of the Institute for Occupational and Environmental Health, the Center for Immunopathology and Microbial Pathogenesis, and the Interdisciplinary Center for Research on Respiratory Biology and Lung Diseases. Dr. Ducatman is an internist and an occupational physician.

Stephanie Frisbee, MSc, is a Research Instructor in the Department of Community Medicine.  Ms. Frisbee is the project manager and population scientist. She provides organizational direction and analyses to the materials you can view on the WVU C8 project data hosting website.

 

Cecil Pollard, MA, is a survey researcher and director of the Office of Health Services Research in the Department of Community Medicine.  His role in the C8 data-hosting project is interpreting health data for community participants, advocating for clarity, and responding to community questions and concerns.  Mr. Pollard’s research interest is in the use of electronic health systems for improving health care.

 

Gerry Hobbs, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Statistics at West Virginia University. Dr. Hobbs holds the PhD degree in mathematical statistics from Kansas State University. He is the lead statistician for the WVU team, and he assists in the provision of quality-assurance information.

Charlotte Firestone is the lead web developer for the C8 website project. She works with the Department of Community Medicine and assists with the design, construction, organization and upkeep of several of Community Medicine's public health-related websites. She has worked in the Department of Academic Technologies for over six years.

 

Miriam Mutambudzi, BA, is a Graduate Research Assistant, and an MPH student in the Department of Community Medicine at the West Virginia University School of Medicine. Her role is to create graphics and tables for the WVU C8 project data-hosting website. Miriam is a native of Harare, Zimbabwe and received her undergraduate degree in International Studies from the WVU Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Political Science.

 

Erin Bunner constructed the initial framework of the WVU C8 data hosting website and was responsible for inserting the first pieces of content. She was instrumental in the early stages of the project, making sure that each section was laid out well and that all information was organized properly.

 

Joel Halverson, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Community Medicine, holds the PhD in geography from WVU. Dr. Halverson has over 20 years of research experience.  Since 1997, his research has focused primarily on cardiovascular disease epidemiology, with an emphasis on disparities.  He has produced several nationally recognized atlases of disease distribution.  Dr. Halverson’s role in the C8 Health Study is geographic information.

 

Chuanfang Jin, MD, MPH, is a board-certified internist who is also board-certified in occupational medicine.  Her research interests include neurotoxicity and health outcomes.  Her role on the project includes analysis of risk factors and the relationships of risk factors to serum C8 concentrations.

 

Kevin M. Leyden, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Political Science at West Virginia University and Director of the Institute for Public Affairs.  His current research examines how the built environment affects individuals socially, politically, and physically. Dr. Leyden leads a project to examine the satisfaction of participants in the C8 Health Survey.  He co-leads a project, with Dr. Alan Ducatman and Ms. Stephanie Frisbee, to examine how participants used the information about abnormal clinical laboratory values reported to them.

Jun Tan, MA, is a Research Associate in the Department of Statistics. He is responsible for data cleaning and importing for this project.

 

Xiao-qiang "Sean" Wang holds the Master of Science in Computer Science from WVU, and was a graduate assistant in the Department of Community Medicine.  He is now a programmer with the Veterans Administration Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion in Pittsburgh.  Mr. Wang created the formats for graphics and tables seen on this website. 

 

Yaping Wang holds the Master of Science degree from the Department of Statistics, WVU Eberly College of Arts and Sciences.  She assists with data cleaning and statistical analysis.
