Department of Community Medicine
Advisors
Every student will be assigned an Academic Advisor aligned with the student's selected track to provide academic and professional advice. Students will meet with their advisors prior to or during the first semester to review their Plan of Study (see below) and should schedule a meeting with him or her once each semester thereafter. Faculty advisors are assigned by the Program Coordinator, Leah Adkins.
The Program Advisor’s sole role is to meet with every student prior to or during the first semester to assist with the development of a Plan of Study (courses the student will take for the MPH degree). Once the Plan of Study is developed, the student will meet with his/her advisor for approval prior to finalization.
A record of student/advisor contact is placed in each student's file to ensure that the mandatory periodic advising session does take place. In the case of distance-learning and off-campus students, advising contact may be made via electronic or telecommunications means; however, a record of the contact must still be placed in the student file. Advisors are responsible for updating student contact logs and assuring their accessibility to the Educational Programs office upon request. |
