Motao Zhu, MD, MS, PhD
Assistant Professor
Dr. Zhu received his M.S. and Ph.D. in epidemiology from the State University of New York at Albany. He also has an M.D. from Beijing Medical University, China. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Medicine and the Injury Control Research Center, West Virginia University.
Dr. Zhu’s research interests include injury epidemiology and prevention, maternal and child health, and epidemiology methods. His previous research in injury included the examination of the association between rear safety belt use and traffic fatalities using the matched-cohort design, urban/rural variation in walking patterns and pedestrian crashes, and graduated driver licensing. His previous research in maternal and child health covered maternal low-level lead exposure and fetal growth and hypertension in pregnancy; and, maternal birthplace and congenital malformations. He has a strong background in statistical methods, epidemiology designs, and data linkage.
