Scott Cottrell, EdD

Scott Cottrell, Ed.D. is a 2001 graduate of West Virginia University's College of Human Resources and Education. Dr. Scott Cottrell is an assistant professor in the Department of Community Medicine. Scott is involved with a several projects, but he generally contributes to four areas:

  • develops and delivers faculty development programs that focus on scholarly teaching and assessment of student learning
  • helps faculty to define learning outcomes and create innovative teaching practices
  • facilitates problem-based learning courses
  • conducts educational scholarship.

Scott's research agenda focuses on how faculty design instructional and assessment strategies to help students realize their full learning potential. One of his projects, The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning: Diverse Faculty Uniting to Further Student Learning and Development, examines how faculty from a variety of disciplines are redesigning their courses and investigating how curriculum changes are impacting student learning and development. His study also examines how academic leaders can help reinforce and advance faculty’s efforts to improve student learning and development.
