William M. Murray Public Health Education Scholarship Fund

William "Bill" Murray

Established to honor the memory of William M. Murray, MPA and his devotion to public service and public health, the fund will provide scholarship support to students matriculating in graduate public health at West Virginia University.

Bill Murray was a loving son, a caring brother, a doting uncle, and a great friend and colleague.  With his administrative guidance and leadership, graduate public health education at West Virginia University was born, grew rapidly, achieved national certification, and has attracted a growing stream of national and international applicants.  Although the programs are only about a decade old, program graduates are successfully placed around the nation, and they are achieving leadership positions in state and federal agencies, in foundations and businesses, and in education.

Bill Murray’s tireless work made his workplace a better place. He was admired and respected by coworkers.  The teaching faculty and staff who support the public health educational programs at WVU miss him terribly.  Bill’s commitment to excellence lives in our memory, and his example continues to make this a better place.

This memorial fund, established by Bill’s family, Dr. Gordon and Mrs. Sharon Murray; his brother, Bruce Murray; and his sister, Bren Sparling, is appreciated and supported by our faculty, students, and staff.
