August 2004

August 31, 2004:  This Month's edition of The Center lists the May 2004 promotions in the HSC.  A number of individuals were promoted, including 4 who were promoted and tenured. Among those 4, Ruth Turner Goins of the Center on Aging was promoted to Associate Professor and tenured.  There were 10 grants of Emeritus status. Leading the list alphabetically and in our hearts, Bill Carlton. Also on the list, Gordon Murray, MD, who brought cardiovascular surgery to prominence at WVU, and parent of Bill Murray.

August 16, 2004:  The Dominion Post published an article about the Center for Rural Emergency Medicine. The focus of the article was new CREM director, Jeff Coben, MD. In addition, there was specific praise for Jim Helmkamp's nationally recognized ATV research.  (Originally appeared at http://www.dominionpost.com/a/news/2004/08/14/bi/.)

August 11, 2004:  CMED was mentioned in the July-Aug edition of Research America's newsletter, "Membership Matters."  The Media/Science Forum entitled "Turning Research into News" (hosted by WVU PRC), mentioned a conference that featured WV news leaders (Hoppy Kercheval and Vicki Smith from Associated Press), and mentioned WVU researchers Joel Halverson, Turner Goins, and Alan Ducatman.
