November 30: The Dominion Post reports that Monongalia County is considering a smoking ban in local businesses and bars. Dr. Alan Ducatman is quoted and Valerie Frey-McClung is paraphrased.

November 30: The Injury Control Research Center has published a newsletter which features Dr. Jim Helmkamp and Dr. Mary Carter in their roles as Primary Investigators, and mentions Dr. Rob Bossarte, and also has a great story on PhD student Ekta Choudhary.

November 26: Dr. Kim Horn and other WVU scientists are looking for new ways to help people, especially West Virginians, to quit smoking. The Dominion Post reports.

November 26: The Dominion Post reports that researchers at WVU (including CMED's Dr. Lan Guo) have identified and patented a 35-gene signature to help predict lung cancer recurrence following the surgical removal of lung tumors.

November 13: The CDC recommends that West Virginia should spend more money to reduce tobacco use. Dr. Kim Horn agrees, and was interviewed for a front-page story in The Dominion Post.

November 12: The Dominion Post featured an article on the well-known north-south disparity in WV health indicators. Monongalia County had the best in the state, and Southern counties did much less well. Joel Halverson was quoted concerning underlying socioeconomic issues that contribute.

November 12: The Daily Atheneum reports about last Friday's toxic chemical spill on I-68. Dr. Ducatman is quoted again.

November 12: Dr. Ducatman is quoted about the dangers of toluene diisocyanate, a chemical which was spilled in a tractor-trailer accident on I-68 last Friday. The Dominion Post reports.

November 5: This month's School of Medicine E-news features Dr. Jim Helmkamp, with more news about ATV mortality, Dr. Kim Horn, featuring her appointment to a national advisory committee, and Dr. Carl Werntz, concerning his role in devising a medical monitoring plan for a population involved in a court ruling about some toxic exposures. November 5: People living near coal mines may have a higher incidence of disease, according to Dr. Michael Hendryx's recent study. However, a coal industry official is challenging the findings.
