September 30, 2005: Recent MPH graduate Balaji Datti's
first-authored paper, "The Effect of Direct-to-Consumer Advertising on
Prescription Drug Use by Older Adults," has been accepted for publication in the
journal, Drugs and Aging.
September 29, 2005: Faculty
publications are attracting additional national attention. Turner Goins
has just published an article in Generations, the Journal of the American Society on Aging.
September 27, 2005: The CDC's latest
issue of "Preventing Chronic Disease" features another article that was
written by several CMED faculty and staff. The article is entitled "Quit
and Reduction Rates for a Pilot Study of the American Indian Not On Tobacco

September 26, 2005: Still More mention of
Dr. Bill Reger-Nash's work with WV Walks. This time, it gets statewide publicity
through West Virginia On The Move's newsletter.
September 25, 2005: Dr. Bill Reger-Nash
and WV Walks continue to make the news locally and regionally. This project is
clearly appreciated. The Dominion Post reports.
September 22, 2005: Dr. John E.
Prescott, dean of the WVU School of Medicine, presented a report on hospital
disaster planning on Sept. 21 at the Health Sciences Center. This
presentation was sponsored by the WVU Department of Community Medicine’s Public
Health Grand Rounds series. Watch it here! Interestingly, the Congressional Research Service (provides
support for US Congress) has requested web access.
September 22,
2005: Jim Helmkamp and his work on ATVs at the Injury Control
Research Center, is once again national news. An article about his

September 21, 2005: "Driving, Old Age and Dementia" was the topic
of an Injury Control Research Center seminar on Sept. 20 at the Center for Rural
Emergency Medicine Conference Center. Dr. Richard Ham, director of the WVU
Center on Aging, and Bei Wu, assistant professor at the Center on Aging, were
the speakers.
September 20, 2005: Area
residents now have one more reason to put on their walking shoes and begin
exercising. The WV WALKS campaign will be issuing frequent walker cards to
encourage residents of north-central West Virginia to walk at least 30 minutes a
day. Once completed, the card can be mailed in to be included in a drawing for a
gift certificate from a local sporting goods store. More info is available

several pieces by Judith Sedgeman concerning stress.

Nutrition Program of the Office of Health Services Research Center (OHSR).
