Department of Emergency Medicine

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the West Virginia University hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center which provides extensive, comprehensive emergency care to the sick and injured of West Virginia and neighboring states.

Nearly 40,000 patients are treated annually in a department that places emphasis on support of the rural population of the area. Services are coordinated in order to enhance access to necessary medical care. The department incorporates the Regional Emergency Medical Services Medical Command, a highly advanced communications center which ties together the EMT's and paramedical personnel in the field with the Emergency Department staff and, through the use of Health Net, provides aero medical rescue and transport for the critically ill and injured.
