Two Tenure-Track Faculty Positions in Exercise Physiology

In an expanding commitment to research excellence in cardiovascular and muscle biology, West Virginia University School of Medicine invites applications from outstanding scientists for two new tenure-track faculty positions as ASSISTANT, ASSOCIATE or FULL PROFESSOR, in the Division of Exercise Physiology (http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/som/ep/). Applicants must hold a PhD, MD or equivalent and have current transferable extramural federal funding as a PI (e.g., NIH R01). We are seeking candidates who use modern research approaches to address significant clinical/translational or basic problems in muscle biology, cardiovascular diseases, or diabetes, and whose research aligns with the Center for Cardiovascular and Respiratory Sciences (see http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/ccrs/) or another Research Center that has been identified in the West Virginia University School of Medicine (see http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/som/resoff/grants_research/grants_research_main.asp). Appointees will be expected to maintain an independent, extramural nationally funded research program. The successful candidates will be encouraged to participate in graduate education through developing a graduate course in their area of expertise and mentoring doctoral students. Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Exercise Physiology

The Division of Exercise Physiology, West Virginia University School of Medicine invites applications from outstanding candidates for one tenure track (12 month) position. Appointment will be made as an ASSISTANT or ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR in Exercise Physiology, and will depend upon the applicant’s qualifications. Applicants must hold a PhD, MD/PhD or equivalent in Exercise Physiology or a closely related field, and have postdoctoral training.

The successful candidate will contribute to both the teaching and the research missions of the Division of Exercise Physiology, which was ranked 7th nationally by the Chronicles of Higher Education in 2007. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience in teaching and mentoring graduate students, and possess research experience and a publication record using modern clinical/translational/applied/basic approaches in a research area that is complementary to the strengths of the faculty in Exercise Physiology. This appointment is offered in accordance with the provisions of West Virginia University as described in the Faculty Handbook (http://www.wvu.edu/~acadaff/fac/Handbook/). Appointment at the level of an Assistant Professor will require evidence of relevant teaching experience and success/potential for obtaining extramural funding for research. Appointment as an Associate Professor will also require evidence of a sustained extramural grant funding (e.g., NIH R01 or equivalent) and evidence of successful teaching and mentoring graduate students to matriculation. Candidates who have relevant teaching experience and whose research complements the research strengths of the faculty and adjunct faculty in Exercise Physiology, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes/obesity, sarcopenia, biomechanics of aging and human performance, are particularly encouraged to apply. Research collaborations with the Center for Cardiovascular and Respiratory Sciences are encouraged (http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/ccrs/). A competitive salary commensurate with experience and access to research space and equipment will be provided. The appointment will begin as early as July 1, 2009.
