Physician Profiles

John V. Linberg, M.D.John V. Linberg, M.D. is Professor in the WVU Department of Ophthalmology and director of the University Eye Center's Oculoplastics Service. Dr. Linberg maintains a leadership role in the Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center, as a member of numerous university, hospital, and state organizations.

Dr. Linberg is internationally recognized for his expertise in anatomy and surgery of the lacrimal system, which controls tear production and drainage. Dr. Linberg has published two books, over 75 journal articles, and is invited to lecture at universities throughout the United Staes and other countries. He is widely respected for his research in diseases affecting the eyelids, tear ducts, tumors, fractures, and birth defects.

Dr. Linberg earned his medical degree at the New York University School of Medicine. He completed an ophthalmology residency at Columbia University in New York and went on to complete fellowships in oculoplastic and orbital surgery at the University of Iowa and at St. John's Ophthalmic Hospital in Jerusalem, Israel. Dr. Linberg joined the WVU Ophthalmology faculty in 1983 and was appointed department chairman from 1995 to 2007.

Dr. Linberg provides medical and surgical treatment for problems of the eyelids, tear drainage system, midface, and facial bones, including tumors, injury and birth defects. He has a special interest in thyroid eye disease and facial fractures.
