Department of Family Medicine

WVU Family Medicine Resident Curriculum

Ambulatory Pediatrics (Pediatric Group Practice, PGP)

General: This is the outpatient pediatric rotation, which is generally a busy month, but with excellent exposure to common and not-so-common ambulatory cases.
Call: Residents will be scheduled to cover weekend call for the pediatric department, as well as their Saturday clinic,  one or two weekends during this one month rotation.
Patient Load: Pediatrics clinic is usually fairly busy, but with residents and students rotating on the service, patients are seen quickly and turn-over is high.
Other Learners: Senior residents in pediatrics usually see their own panel of patients in the clinic. Sub-interns and third-year medical students also participate in the clinic. At times, the precepting room gets a little crowded with all the residents and students, but there are usually plenty of patients to keep everyone busy and plenty of interactive discussion.
Supervision: One or two pediatric attendings staff the clinic, and the teaching is excellent.
