Department of Family Medicine

WVU Family Medicine Resident Curriculum

Behavioral Sciences

General: Behavioral Medicine is an integral part of training a well rounded family physician. Many aspects of proper psychiatric medical care are explored. One-on-one training in grief management, relaxation techniques, and recognizing the depressed and/or anxious patient can be expected. Videotaped clinical visits are critiqued for refinement of the doctor patient relationship.  A training grant has made it possible for residents to participate in several community outreach programs during this rotation.  This may include activities such as reading to elementary students, volunteering at a local homeless shelter, or meeting with local civic organizations.
