WVU Family Medicine Resident Curriculum

Night Float

General: One month, during the second and third years of training, (and the fourth year for combined residents) our residents cover the family medicine night float rotation.  During this month the resident takes at home call for the family medicine inpatient service 9:00 p.m. - 8:00 a.m. Monday through Friday.
Other Learners: A family medicine intern is assigned call with the night float resident.  Third year medical students also take call with the interns.
Supervision: The resident is scheduled to see patients three mornings a week in the Family Medicine Center from 8:00 - 11:00 a.m.  This schedule allows the resident to maintain their continuity patient panel throughout the rotation, while having adequate time for rest between scheduled shifts.
