Mission & Goals

The mission of the West Virginia University (WVU) Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center located in Morgantown is to improve the health of West Virginians through the education of health professionals, basic/clinical research, continuing professional education, and by providing health care services.

The Department of Family Medicine at WVU is a well established university program founded in 1973. Since its inception, the Department has been actively committed to providing primary health care services and the recruitment, training and retention of primary care physicians in West Virginia.
