Department of Medicine -
Section of Endocrinology

Open Faculty Positions
The Endocrinology Section offers both inpatient and outpatient evaluation of patients with endocrine and metabolic disorders. The diabetes center provides outpatient services, including the evaluation of the medical and educational needs of patients and their referring physicians. Once those needs are identified, the center sets out to meet them. If education is required, a course of instruction is scheduled along with follow-up visits, as needed. Patients may be referred by the: centers teaching nurse; dietician; diabetologist; physical therapist; psychiatrist.

Emphasis will be placed on non-pharmacological aspects of therapy (dietary counseling and exercise). A formal weight loss exercise program is available for severely obese patients. We also offer intensified insulin therapy and the option to use continuous insulin delivery with portable infusion pumps. In addition, concurrent medical problems (Hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and renal insufficiency) will be evaluated and treated. Referring physicians who use the Diabetes Center for consultations will receive a written patient evaluation and related recommendations. Services also include nutritional support and assessment of clinical nutrition problems. Research activities focus on: diabetic neuropathy, exercise physiology, orthostatic hypotension and orthostatic tachycardia.
