Mission and Goals


The mission of the department is to provide excellence in education, research, and service to the students of West Virginia University. The overall strength of the department and its previous highly successful graduate program make this an ideal place for the graduate program in Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis.


The major objective of graduate education in the Immunology and Microbial Pathogenesis Graduate Program is research training. To achieve this purpose, students are grounded with a strong foundation in basic concepts of microbiology, microbial pathogenesis, and immunology and allowed flexibility in choosing advanced coursework in their specific areas of interest.
