Academic Interests:
The research in my laboratory utilizes Salmonella enterica (serovar Typhimurium), a Gram-negative enteric bacterium which causes gastroenteritis in humans and a typhoid-like disease in mice. We study regulation of the sigma transcription specificity factor RpoS. This protein is induced in response to stress, nutrient limitation, and growth in mammalian host cells. Its regulation
involves novel post-transcriptional mechanisms including control of translation by small RNAs and regulated proteolysis.
