Application Process

The West Virginia University Department of Neurology is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals.

Internal Medicine/Neurology: 1837745C0

This is the code applicants need to use to rank WVU Neurology on their rank order lists.

We require the following documentation before an invitation to interview is granted:

  1. Graduation from an accredited American Medicine School or, for international medical school graduates, a current ECFMG certificate.

  2. Certified medical school transcript

  5. Interview Application: http://www.hsc.wvu.edu/som/gme. Please go to the above website and print the "Application for Resident Physician Interview" under "Hiring Information".

  6. Personal statement

  7. Three letters of recommendation (current)

  8. Dean's letter or letter from current program director

  9. USMLE scores completed and passed Steps 1. Dates for scheduled/anticipated Step 2/CS.

  10. Completion of approved American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology required PG-1 year. It is strongly recommended that PGY1 year is done here in our transitional year program. This is a guaranteed position for applicants selected for a Neurology residency however, you must apply through ERAS and NRMP.

  11. Appropriate J1 Visa or Green Card. Our institution does not sponsor H-1b, F1, or B1 visas.

  12. All applicants must be within 10 years of graduation from medical school.

International Medical Graduates

The Department of Neurology welcomes applications from qualified international medical graduates who seek post-graduate education in Neurology. Applicants to the Neurology Training Program are generally considered only after successful completion of an internship in Internal Medicine at a university hospital in the United States or Canada.
Additional requirements for the Neurology Residency Program include:

  1. Successful completion of at least four credit years and graduation from a medical school listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED)

  2. Successful completion of USMLE Parts I and II.

  3. ECFMG certification [for information, go to website www.ECFMG.org

  4. Acceptable U. S. visa for medical training is a current J-1 Visa (The Department cannot sponsor applicants)

  5. Fluency in spoken and written English
