The fellowship is a combined clinical neuromuscular electrophysiology (NCS/EMG with epilepsy and electroencephalography. It meets the training requirement for Added Qualifications in Clinical Neurophysiology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) and the certification by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine (ABEM). Fellows will learn the fundamentals of conventional nerve conduction techniques and needle electromyography, neuromuscular transmission studies, single fiber EMG, EMG monitoring of chemodenervation therapy in torticollis, autonomic testing, and brainstem reflex studies. Fellows will also learn fundamentals of electroencephalography including prolonged EEG, video EEG monitoring, intraoperative monitoring, evaluation for epilepsy surgery, and sleep studies. Expertise in the clinical evaluation of patients with neuromuscular disease is acquired by participation in the various activities of the Neuromuscular Disease Service. Expertise in clinical evaluation and treatment of seizure disorders is acquired on the epilepsy service and in the clinic. The Clinical Neurophysiology Laboratory is actively involved in clinical research. Fellow applicants much complete and approved residency in Neurology to qualify.

The structure of the fellowship may be adaptable to the particular interest of the applicant.
