All of the patients evaluated at WVU will be informed of the potential benefits and relative risks of standard surgical procedures and standard external beam radiation therapy as well as Radiosurgery. Our educational programs help the patient and their families choose the most reasonable treatment for their individual situation. Recommendations for Radiosurgery will be considered more strongly in patients who have major medical factors that place them at a significantly higher risk to undertake the standard surgical or external radiation therapy. These factors may include medical illnesses that place them at a higher risk of complications of general anesthesia, or lesions in locations that make their surgical removal very risky. Patients who have previously undergone standard surgical or external beam radiation therapy that have significant residual tumor will also be strongly considered for Radiosurgery.
