Who Do We Help?
Reproductive Endocrinology is a specialty that is usually associated with the management of infertility or recurrent pregnancy loss. Our specialty should be considered a "life span" specialty in that we care for individuals with congenital or acquired conditions that impact the normal function of their reproductive tract. These individuals range in age from infants to the geriatric population and can include both males and females. Examples of such conditions include:
- birth defects of the uterus and reproductive tract
- abnormalities of pubertal development
- absent or irregular periods
- abnormal milk production from the breasts
- abnormal hair growth
- polycystic ovary syndrome
- fibroids
- endometriosis
- management of the perimenopause and menopause
Your First Visit
- A new patient consultation generally lasts for approximately 45 minutes.
- The visit will begin with a full and very detailed review of your medical history including any available medical records.
- A complete physical examination will be performed and may include a pelvic ultrasound in order to confirm or provide additional information.
- Many of you will be seeing us as result of being referred by another physician and may feel that repeating the history and physical examination is redundant. We feel that this portion of your evaluation is essential in order to make the appropriate diagnosis and to provide you with an optimal plan for therapy.
- If you are seeking treatment for infertility, we encourage your partner to accompany you to the first appointment and welcome their involvement in subsequent visits.
Return Visits
- Return infertility appointments are usually for the purpose of performing specific tests or ultrasound monitoring.
- Our schedule for such appointments begins at 7 a.m. This early start will hopefully minimize the disruption to your daily schedule.
- For those of you who are travelling longer distances, later appointments are also available; but certain tests will need to be at specific times during the day.
- It may be necessary for you to be seen on weekends or holidays. Such appointments are usually scheduled between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.
- Non-infertility return appointments will usually be scheduled in the afternoon.
IVF Retrievals and Transfers
The assisted reproductive technologies require careful timing of administration of medications and adequate time to perform the required intricate laboratory procedures. It is for this reason that patients undergoingegg retrieval will usually be scheduled between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. During the week, Embryo transfers are scheduled in the mornings and early afternoons. If a transfer needs to be performed on a week-end or holiday, it will usually be scheduled between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.
