Interview Selection Criteria

Our five-year program admits three PGY-1 trainees on July 1 of each year, 2 in the clinical track (5 years) and 1 in the research track (6 years). Candidates are selected for interviews on the basis of their medical school transcripts, United States Medical Licensing Examination scores, letters of recommendation and the personal criteria of each faculty member. Final selection is based on the preceding information, the interview and on evaluations of the applicant's fourth-year medical school rotations.

The interview process is conducted during December and January on Saturday mornings. A link to local hotels is provided under interview information. Each candidate is interviewed by as many faculty members as possible. Candidates are assessed based on perceived intellectual ability and personality fit to the Department of Orthopaedics. Candidates have ample time to talk with residents in the program and to tour the facilities at WVU. Additionally, a casual night out, the Friday evening before each interview day is usually scheduled.
