Amanda received a Bachelor of Arts in Human Performance and Health from West Virginia University in 2001, a Masters of Occupational Therapy from West Virginia University in 2002, and a Master’s Certification in Special Education and Brain Injury from George Washington University in 2007. She worked at an inpatient rehabilitation hospital for 8 years; as the lead occupational therapist on the brain injury team for 5 years and an occupational therapy manager for 3 years. Amanda received the ranking clinical specialist II Neuro due to her experience and continuing education with brain injury. Amanda worked as an adjunct professor in the Division of Occupational Therapy at WVU from 2005-2009. She transitioned to Assistant Professor in the Division of Occupational Therapy at WVU in 2010.
Amanda’s teaching assignments include the introduction of disease and injury and its functional implications on OT treatment, evaluation procedures and the rehabilitation of neurological populations. Additional assignments include scheduling and coordinating Level I fieldworks. Amanda’s professional interests include the rehabilitation of the neurological populations in the areas of ADL’s, community reentry, returning to work or college. Specific research interests include the benefits of initiating therapy early in the rehabilitation process and strategies that can be utilized for successful return to work and school.
