Department of Otolaryngology He believes that his dual training in both Dentistry and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery provides a unique vantage point from which to evaluate the complex functional and anatomic relationships found in the head and neck. He is particularly interested in general otolaryngology, allergic diseases affecting the nose and upper respiratory tract, in maxillofacial injury, and in thyroid surgery. Dr. Michael Hurst is a native of West Virginia who grew up in Princeton in Mercer County. Upon graduation from high school in 1970 he came to Morgantown for undergraduate studies and went on to receive a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from WVU in 1977. After 7 years of teaching and practicing dentistry he decided to pursue a career in medicine. He matriculated at the Marshall University School of Medicine in Huntington, WV, from 1984-1988. Upon graduation he returned to Morgantown and completed Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery training in 1993. Dr. Hurst and his wife Kara were married in 1979. They have three sons, Robert, James and Philip.
