Christopher H. Rassekh, MD, FACS

Dr. Chris Rassekh grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He completed his residency in Otolaryngology at the University of Iowa in 1992 and then went on to complete a fellowship in Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery and Cranial Base Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. He joined the faculty at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1993 where he directed the head and neck oncology fellowship program. Dr. Rassekh joined us as Associate Professor and Director of Head and Neck Oncology at West Virginia University in 1999. Dr. Rassekh has been very active in resident and medical student education and also in continuing medical education activities.
Dr. Rassekh has published articles and book chapters on topics including neck dissection, conservation laryngeal surgery, sinonasal surgery, skull base surgery, microvascular free flap reconstruction, and in molecular biology of head and neck cancer. He is interested in multicenter clinical trials and has been co-chair of the Southwest Oncology Group Head and Neck Surgical Subcommittee and is on the Head and Neck Committee of the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group. He was on the editorial board of Laryngoscope through 2000, and is currently on the editorial board of the American Journal of Otolaryngology, as well as a reviewer for several other peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Rassekh has served on the Ethics Committee and Skull Base Surgery Committees of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He is a member of the American Head and Neck Society, the American Rhinologic Society, the North American Skull Base Society, the Society of University Otolaryngologists and the Association for Research in Otolaryngology.
Dr. Rassekh's clinical focus is on organ preservation surgery for laryngeal and other head and neck cancers, sinus tumors/cranial base surgery, and management of neck metastasis. He also sees patients who require reconstruction for major head and neck defects including microvascular flap reconstruction.
