Case of the Month Sep 2002

A 56 year-old male with recurrent sinusitis, nasal congestion and epistaxis.

Jason C. Fowler, PA; Christopher Rassekh MD; Peilin Zhang MD

Patient History

A 56 year-old white male presented to the ENT clinic with a history of “stuffy nose,” nasal congestion and infrequent epistaxis that was controlled with conservative measures at home. His work history is significant for exposure to paints and solvents as an employee of PPG. He denies any history of smoking or alcohol. Imaging studies identified the presence of a bulky nasopharyngeal mass with adenopathy. Outpatient nasal endoscopy using a 30-degree scope confirmed the presence of a bilateral nasopharyngeal mass that compromised the Fossa of Rosenmueller on the left side and extended to the tonsillar fossa on the right side. A biopsy of the mass was obtained and sent to pathology for a lymphoma work-up.
