Clinical History

A previously healthy 16-year-old female fell while taking a shower. She sustained a cut to her labia majora with severe bleeding. She was transported by ambulance to the emergency room where she received six stitches and required transfusion of six units of packed red blood cells. She was subsequently admitted to the hospital for bleeding disorder workup.

Complete history obtained after admission revealed a previously healthy 16-year-old female with no current medications, no past medical problems, and no past surgeries. A mild history of menorrhagia was elicited which the patient had overlooked since her mother had a similar history of consistently heavy menstrual bleeding. Admission physical was unremarkable with exception of the labial laceration. She had no excessive bruising or other skin or mucosal lesions
