Matrina Schmidt, MD and William W.L. Chang, MD, PhD.
Patient History
A 82-year-old female, G5 P5, presented to her gynecologist with a three-month history of postmenopausal bleeding. Her last menstrual period was at 55 years of age and she had never been on hormone replacement therapy. She had a past medical history of hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, "mini-stroke". An ultrasound examination showed a 9-cm right adnexal mass. At the time of exploratory laparotomy, a large right ovarian mass was affixed to the pelvic sidewall with tumor extension to the posterior cul-de-sac involving the rectosigmoid colon and the posterior pelvic peritoneum.
