Patient History
A 40-year-old man was seen by his primary care physician because of easy bruising and bone pain. He was a construction worker and developed bruises “all over his body” after using a jackhammer. He stated that he had occasional night sweats and had been fatigued. He also stated that he had experienced early satiety, frequent belching and left upper quadrant burning. His physician ordered a complete blood count. Following this testing, the hematology/oncology was consulted. A bone marrow biopsy and aspirate were performed. Morphologic evaluation and cytogenetic studies were performed on the bone marrow aspirate.
